Yanks 8, Blue Jays 5: So, what's that about a J.A. Happ trade?
Sonny Gray, Neil Walker, and Being Wrong

In case you missed it earlier, RHP Jonathan Loaisiga was placed on the Triple-A 7-day DL with shoulder inflammation. He’s going for tests. That’s not good. Loaisiga has a long injury history. He showed he’s a viable depth starter these last few weeks and now he’ll be unavailable for at least seven days. Probably longer. Sucks.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (4-2 loss to Pawtucket)

  • SS Abi Avelino: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 CS — he’s hitting .312/.363/.487 so far this season … he came into the year as a career .267/.330/.358 hitter in over 2,000 minor league plate appearances
  • RF Billy McKinney: 1-4, 1 K
  • 1B Ryan McBroom: 2-3, 1 BB
  • LHP Josh Rogers: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR, 4/5 GB/FB — 54 of 89 pitches were strikes (61%)

Double-A Trenton Thunder (6-4 win over Altoona)

  • SS Kyle Holder: 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B — hitting .275/.341/.413 with seven walks and eight strikeouts in 19 games back from the fractured vertebrae
  • RF Trey Amburgey: 1-4, 1R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • 2B Gosuke Katoh: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 K
  • RHP Trevor Stephan: 5.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 2 HB, 3/8 GB/FB — 49 of 86 pitches were strikes (57%) … 14 runs and 29 baserunners in his last three starts and 10.2 innings … seems like he’s hit a bit of a wall, hopefully he gets a second wind soon

High-A Tampa Tarpons (2-1 win over Lakeland)

  • SS Diego Castillo: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K — got picked off first … 6-for-13 (.462) with two doubles in his last four games
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI 3 K — that’s his 17th homer of the season … only 20 players in the minors have more and 15 of them are older than Wagner
  • C Donny Sands: 0-3
  • RF Steven Sensley: 0-3, 1 K
  • RHP Nick Nelson: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 5/3 GB/FB — 47 of 81 pitches were strikes (58%) … 28.2 K% and 10.5 BB% this year after 24.3 K% and 11.1 BB% last year
  • LHP Trevor Lane: 2 IP, zeroes, 4 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 17 of 26 pitches were strikes (65%)

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (6-5 win over Columbia)

  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB
  • 3B Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB — had been in a 2-for-27 (.074) skid
  • RF Leonardo Molina: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 CS
  • RHP Janson Junk: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 B, 3 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP, 8/1 GB/FB — 55 of 93 pitches were strikes (59%)

  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 1-4, 1 RBI
  • RHP Luis Medina: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 0/1 GB/FB — 27 of 55 pitches were strikes (49%) … 7/15 K/BB in 9.1 innings so bad, which is: bad
  • RHP Marcus Evey: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 32 of 47 pitches were strikes (68%) … 18/2 K/BB in nine innings for this year’s 20th rounder

Rookie GCL Yankees East (8-6 win over GCL Tigers West) scored four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to win

  • RF Anthony Garcia: 0-4, 2 K
  • 2B Matt Pita: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K — this year’s 12th rounder was drafted as an outfielder, but the Yankees have apparently moved him to second base … interesting
  • LF Stanley Rosario: 0-3, 1 BB
  • C Hemmanuel Rosario: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
  • LHP Connor Jones: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 0/1 GB/FB — season debut for the 2016 11th rounder, who must’ve been out with some kind of injury
