DotF: Gary Sanchez goes deep in rehab game with Scranton

August 27, 2018 by Mike Leave a Comment

Game 131: Start of the Homestand
White Sox 6, Yankees 2: Sloppy play all around

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (9-6 win over Lehigh Valley in ten innings)

  • CF Tyler Wade: 1-5, 1 K
  • C Gary Sanchez: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — here’s video of the home run and here’s video of the single … he caught seven innings as scheduled … he’s going to DH tomorrow, catch a full nine innings Wednesday and Thursday, then be reevaluated
  • 1B Ryan McBroom: 0-3, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K,1 HBP
  • DH Mike Ford: 3-5, 1 R, 2 2B, 3 RBI — 9-for-19 (.474) with four doubles, one homer, three walks, and no strikeouts in his last five games
  • PR-DH Quintin Berry: 0-0, 1 R — the Yankees signed him today and it sure looks like they’re preparing him for September pinch-running duty
  • SS Gio Urshela: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — Berry needing a 40-man roster spot probably doesn’t bode well for Urshela’s chances at a September call-up
  • LHP Nestor Cortes: 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 4/5 GB/FB — 63 of 100 pitches were strikes … had allowed four runs total in his previous four starts and 25.1 innings

Double-A Trenton Thunder (5-1 win over Altoona)

  • 1B Gosuke Katoh: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB
  • 2B Brandon Wagner: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — had been in a 5-for-44 (.114) skid
  • DH Trey Amburgey: 0-4,  K
  • SS Kyle Holder: 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 CS
  • RHP Trevor Stephan: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HB,6/5 GB/FB — 45 of 78 pitches were strikes (58%) … seems like he’s getting his second wind just before the postseason, which is convenient

High-A Tampa Tarpons (3-1 win over Florida)

  • CF Estevan Florial: 0-4, 3 K — threw a runner out at the plate
  • SS Diego Castillo: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 SB
  • DH Isiah Gilliam: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 1-4, 1 RBI
  • RHP Deivi Garcia: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 WP, 2/2 GB/FB — 56 of 91 pitches were strikes (62%) … 2.74 ERA with 98/18 K/BB in only 69 innings for the 19-year-old … that includes a 1.57 ERA with 35/8 K/BB in 28.1 High-A innings

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (4-0 win over Columbia)

  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 1-4, 1 R, 2 K
  • RHP Shawn Semple: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K, 4/2 GB/FB — 66 of 95 pitches were strikes (69%) … 2.95 ERA and 55/13 K/BB in 55 innings for last year’s 11th rounder

Short Season Staten Island Yankees (5-0 loss to Hudson Valley)

  • SS Eduardo Torrealba: 1-4, 1 2B
  • 1B Chris Gittens: 0-3 — first game since June 17th … he’d been out with a mystery injury
  • C Josh Breaux: 1-4, 1 PB
  • LF Canaan Smith: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 BB — 8-for-26 (.308) with three doubles in his last eight games
  • 2B Jesus Bastidas: 0-2, 1 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Frank German: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 5/1 GB/FB — 26 of 45 pitches were strikes (58%) … 1.65 ERA and 38/5 K/BB in 27.1 innings for this year’s fourth rounder
  • LHP Josh Maciejewski: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 3/2 GB/FB — 26 of 34 pitches were strikes (76%) … I figured this year’s tenth rounder would get moved up here after posting a 35/7 K/BB in 26 innings in the GCL

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (6-2 loss to Elizabethton)

  • SS Oswald Peraza: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 0-4, 1 K — 0-for-12 with four strikeouts in three games with Pulaski
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 0-4, 4 K
  • RHP Luis Medina: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 6/0 GB/FB — 38 of 79 pitches were strikes (48%) … 6.25 ERA and 51/51 K/BB in 39.2 innings for the 19-year-old

The Rookie GCL Yankees East‘s season is over. They went 19-35 and didn’t qualify for the postseason.

The Rookie GCL Yankees West‘s season is over. They went 25-27 and didn’t qualify for the postseason.
