Game 94: Keep Pace
Yankees 5, Indians 4: Just the right amount of bad defense

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (4-0 win over Rochester)

  • CF Billy McKinney: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K — in a little 3-for-22 (.136) skid
  • 3B Brandon Drury: 2-4, 1 K
  • 1B Tyler Austin: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • DH Mike Ford: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 HBP — left the game after taking a pitch to the foot
  • SS Abi Avelino: 3-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 SB — 8-for-22 (.364) in six games since coming back up from Trenton
  • RHP Erik Swanson: 4.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 3/4 GB/FB — 42 of 57 pitches were strikes (74%) … he’s still getting stretched all the way back out following the groin injury, so he was on a pitch limit, hence the short start
  • RHP Cody Carroll: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K — ten of 21 pitches were strikes (48%) … 31.0 K% and 10.1 BB% this year after 28.0 K% and 9.4 BB% last year

Double-A Trenton Thunder (5-3 win over Richmond)

  • RF Trey Amburgey: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI
  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-4, 1 R
  • RHP Mike King: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 1 WP, 1 HB, 9/1 GB/FB — 56 of 82 pitches were strikes (68%) … back-to-back starts with three earned runs allowed after allowing three earned runs once in his first 14 starts

High-A Tampa Tarpons (5-2 loss to Dunedin)

  • SS Hoy Jun Park & 2B Diego Castillo: both 0-4
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — 18 homers in 82 games this year … he hit 19 homers in 216 games from 2015-17
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 K
  • C Donny Sands: 0-1, 1 K, 1 HBP — left the game the inning after the hit by pitch
  • RHP Rony Garcia: 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 6/2 GB/FB — 58 of 92 pitches were strikes (63%) … not sure if this is a permanent promotion or a spot start … he did throw 135.1 innings at Charleston the last two seasons, so it might be permanent
  • LHP Trevor Lane: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 4/0 GB/FB — 19 of 32 pitches were strikes (59%)

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (4-0 loss to Hickory)

  • 2B Wilkerman Garcia: 1-4
  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-4, 1 K, 1 CS
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K — ninth straight start in the field at first base, so I guess that transition is underway … not unexpected, he’s always been a rough defender at third base
  • RF Leonardo Molina: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K — got picked off second
  • RHP Janson Junk: 4 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 4/2 GB/FB — 55 of 91 pitches were strikes (60%)

Short Season Staten Island Yankees (1-0 win over West Virginia)

  • CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-3, 1 3B, 1 RBI
  • 2B Kyle Gray: 0-1, 2 BB, 1 SB
  • DH Miguel Flames: 0-3, 1 K
  • RHP Harold Cortijo: 5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 9/3 GB/FB — 40 of 69 pitches were strikes (58%) … 19/6 K/BB in 18.2 innings for last year’s 14th rounder

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (13-1 loss to Princeton)

  • DH Everson Pereira: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K — left the game in the seventh inning for an unknown reason (maybe because it was a blowout and they were getting him some rest?)
  • 2B Ezequiel Duran: 1-4
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Luis Medina: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 1 WP, 1 Balk, 2/1 GB/FB — 46 of 83 pitches were strikes (55%) … 17 runs and a 14/19 K/BB in 13 innings through five starts

Rookie GCL Yankees East (2-1 win over GCL Blue Jays, walk-off style)

  • CF Estevan Florial: 3-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI — played seven innings today, and since he’s yet to play a full nine innings in the field, I’d guess he’s still a few days away from rejoining Tampa … 11-for-23 (.478) with two doubles and two homers in four rehab games following wrist surgery
  • RF Alexander Santana: 1-1, 1 2B, 1 RBI — took over for Florial and hit the walk-off double
  • DH Ryder Green: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 K
  • C Alex Guerrero: 2-4, 1 K, 1 PB, 1 E (pickoff)
  • RHP Juan Then: 3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2/3 GB/FB — 22/5 K/BB in 23 innings for the 19-year-old
  • LHP Josh Maciejewski: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 2/1 GB/FB — 16/3 K/BB in 12.1 innings for this year’s tenth rounder

Rookie GCL Yankees West (4-3 win over GCL Pirates)

  • CF Antonio Cabello: 1-2, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 CS — 17-year-old is up to .328/.430/.642 in 19 games
  • 2B Roberto Chirinos: 0-1, 1 RBI — left the game after grounding out in the first inning
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 1-5, 3 K
  • LF Stanley Rosario: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 SB
  • C Hemmanuel Rosario: 0-4, 1 K
  • LHP Chaz Hebert: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 2/1 GB/FB — picked a runner off first
