Update: Chapman exits tonight's game with knee injury
Yankees 2, Marlins 1: Miggy and Higgy win it in the 12th

LHP Justus Sheffield has been removed from the Triple-A Scranton rotation and will instead pitch out of the bullpen, the team announced. Brian Cashman told Jack Curry the plan is to give Sheffield three or four relief appearances with the RailRiders to prepare him to pitch out of the bullpen in September.

The Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders had their game suspended due to rain in the middle of the ninth inning. Here’s the box score. Sheffield did indeed come out of the bullpen tonight. He allowed a run in two innings. The game will be completed tomorrow.

Double-A Trenton Thunder (7-3 loss to Hartford)

  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
  • SS Gosuke Katoh: 0-4, 2 K, 1 E (throwing)
  • RHP Trevor Stephan: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 WP, 2/5 GB/FB — 59 of 85 pitches were strikes (69%) … his best start in a while now, he’d been really struggling the last few weeks

High-A Tampa Tarpons (8-3 win over St. Lucie)

  • CF Estevan Florial: 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB — got picked off first … second homer in four games and his sixth of the season overall
  • 2B Diego Castillo: 2-2, 2 R, 1 2B, 3 BB, 1 SB — five times on base tonight after reaching base five times total in his last six games
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
  • SS Hoy Jun Park: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • DH Steven Sensley: 0-4
  • RHP Deivi Garcia: 6 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 5/7 GB/FB — 54 of 82 pitches were strikes (66%) … only two strikeouts? weird … his season low before tonight was six strikeouts … this start knocks his season strikeout rate down from 38.1% to 35.2%

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (3-2 win over West Virginia in ten innings)

  • 2B Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 SB
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 SB — 14-for-39 (.359) during his ten-game hitting streak
  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 0-4, 1 R, 2 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • RHP Miguel Yajure: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 6/3 GB/FB — 46 of 77 pitches were strikes (60%)

Short Season Staten Island Yankees (8-0 loss to Lowell) never good when you have more errors (three) than hits (two)

  • SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-3, 1 E (throwing)
  • C Josh Breaux: 1-3 — 16-for-40 (.400) in his last eleven games
  • 2B Kyle Gray & RF Canaan Smith: both 0-3, 1 K
  • RHP Shawn Semple: 6 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 8/4 GB/FB — 57 of 81 pitches were strikes (70%)

The Rookie Pulaski Yankees were rained out. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

Rookie GCL Yankees East Game One (5-4 loss to GCL Blue Jays) completion of their August 11th game, which was suspended due to rain after the first inning

  • RF-CF Jesus Severino: 0-5, 5 K — ouch
  • RF Alexander Santana: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 CS
  • 1B Jose Villa: 1-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI — because these stats go into the books on the date of the original game, he has an eight-game hitting streak become a nine-game hitting streak
  • RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 1 IP, zeroes, 0/3 GB/FB — he started the original game, before the rain
  • RHP Domingo German: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 2 WP, 2/0 GB/FB — his first game since July 26th … he’d been out with a nerve issue in his elbow

Rookie GCL Yankees East Game Two (8-7 win over GCL Blue Jays in nine innings, walk-off style)

  • CF Jesus Severino: 1-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 E (fielding)
  • C Saul Torres: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB — now 4-for-36 (.111) in 12 games down here and 12-for-83 (.145) in 25 total games this season
  • LF Alexander Santana: 0-4, 3 K
  • RHP Elvis Peguero: 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 3/2 GB/FB

Rookie GCL Yankees West Game One (5-3 loss to GCL Pirates in eight innings) completion of their August 11th game, which was suspended due to rain in the third inning

  • SS Roberto Chirinos: 1-4
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K — six walks in his first 111 plate appearances (5.4%) and 14 walks in his last 72 plate appearances (19.4%)
  • LF Stanley Rosario: 0-1, 1 R, 1 BB
  • C Hemmanuel Rosario: 0-3
  • RHP Jonathan Loaisiga: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HB, 2/2 GB/FB, 1 E (pickoff) — he pitched in the original game on August 11th … this was his first rehab game, though he’s since moved up to Trenton

Rookie GCL Yankees West Game Two (5-2 win over GCL Pirates in seven innings)

  • RF Anthony Garcia: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — threw a runner out at second … that’s his league leading 10th home run … the 17-year-old Garcia is the first Yankees farmhand to hit double-digit homers in the GCL since Juan Rivera (!) hit 12 as a 19-year-old in 1998
  • LF Stanley Rosario: 0-4, 1 RBI, 3 K
  • SS Sincere Smith: 1-3, 1 R, 1 3B — this year’s 32nd rounder is now 3-for-25 (.120) in ten pro games
  • RHP Nelvin Correa: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 HB, 4/4 GB/FB
