Yankees embarrassed by O's; lose fourth straight

According to Chad Jennings, neither OF Brennan Boesch (shoulder) nor UTIL Ronnie Mustelier (groin) are expected to return from the Triple-A DL anytime soon. Hope you weren’t counting on them to improve the big league lineup.

Triple-A Scranton (12-4 win over Pawtucket)

  • C J.R. Murphy: 4-6, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI — 15 hits in his last 33 at-bats (.455)  with five doubles and two homers
  • RF Fernando Martinez: 4-6, 2 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI — 17-for-42 (.405) with four doubles and three homers since being acquired
  • DH Randy Ruiz: 2-5, 1 R
  • 2B Brent Lillibridge: 3-4, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB — second homer in as many days
  • RHP Graham Stoneburner: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 7/5 GB/FB — 58 of 97 pitches were strikes (60%)
  • RHP Dellin Betances: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 0/3 GB/FB — 23 of 38 pitches were strikes (61%) … 32/10 K/BB in 27.2 innings

Double-A Trenton Game One (4-2 win over Binghamton in seven innings) makeup of the June 13th rainout

  • LF Ramon Flores & CF Slade Heathcott: both 1-3, 1 R — Flores struck out once, Heathcott twice
  • RF Tyler Austin: 0-3, 1 K — threw a runner out at the plate
  • 1B Kyle Roller: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI — big year continues
  • DH Andrew Clark: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B — has done nothing but mash since signing after hitting .421/.536/.816 in indy ball
  • RHP Shane Greene: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 Balk, 4/5 GB/FB — 56 of 88 pitches were strikes (64%) … 82/14 K/BB in 91 innings this year
  • RHP Tommy Kahnle: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, 2/1 GB/FB — only six of 14 pitches were strikes (43%) … seven walks in his last 5.2 innings after one walk in his previous 15.2 innings

  • RHP Mikey O’Brien: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 1/4 GB/FB — 48 of 80 pitches were strikes (60%)

High-A Tampa (6-5 loss to Dunedin)

  • CF Mason Williams: 2-5, 1 R — 14 hits in his last 40 at-bats (.350)
  • 2B Rob Refsnyder: 0-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 3B Peter O’Brien: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — his 14 homers lead the farm system … Sanchez (12) and Roller (11) are the only other guys in double digits
  • C Gary Sanchez: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
  • LF Ben Gamel: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Rafael DePaula: 4 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 2/5 GB/FB — first real disaster outing of the season … it was bound to happen at some point

Low-A Charleston (2-1 win over Hickory, walk-off style)

  • CF Jake Cave: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 K — 12 hits in his last 36 at-bats (.333) with six doubles and a triple
  • SS Cito Culver: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI
  • DH Greg Bird: 0-4, 3 K
  • 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: 1-4, 1 K
  • 2B Angelo Gumbs: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB, 1 CS
  • RHP Cesar Vargas: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 6/2 GB/FB — 59 of 88 pitches were strikes (67%)

Short Season Staten Island (4-1 win over Aberdeen)

  • CF Michael O’Neill: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K — got picked off first
  • LF Brandon Thomas: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — got picked off first
  • 3B Kale Sumner: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K — 14-for-36 (.389) with two doubles and a homer in ten games
  • RHP Jairo Heredia: 5 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 7/1 GB/FB

The two Rookie GCL Yanks teams were rained out. They were scheduled to play each other. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on July 15th.
