Keith Law (subs. req’d) posted his updated top 50 prospects list today and it included one Yankee: LHP Justus Sheffield, who ranked 12th overall and fourth among pitchers. “He’s very close to major league-ready … and has all the elements of a future No. 2 starter,” says the write-up.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (7-3 win over Columbus)

  • CF Clint Frazier: 0-1, 1 K — left the game in the second for an unknown reason, though he did dive for a ball in the outfield earlier in the game, so he might be hurt … sure hope not, that would suck … UPDATE: Conor Foley says Frazier was removed as a precaution with possible concussion symptoms following the diving … remember Clint missed all that time with a concussion earlier this year
  • RF Billy McKinney: 1-5, 2 K
  • 2B Brandon Drury: 2-5, 1 RBI, 3 K, 1 CS — second straight game at second base
  • DH Tyler Austin: 1-5, 1 R, 2 K
  • 1B Mike Ford: 3-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI — took a rehabbing Andrew Miller deep
  • SS Abi Avelino: 1-4, 1 R
  • RHP Erik Swanson: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HR, 7/2 GB/FB — 43 of 61 pitches were strikes (70%) … still getting stretched back out following the groin injury, hence the short start
  • RHP Gio Gallegos: 2.2 IP, zeroes, 4 K, 2/2 GB/FB — 21 of 40 pitches were strikes (53%) … 37/7 K/BB in 25.1 Triple-A innings, and two of those walks were intentional
  • RHP Tommy Kahnle: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB — nine of 17 pitches were strikes
  • RHP Cody Carroll: 1 IP, zeroes, 3 K — nine pitches, 12 strikes … 54/16 K/BB in 40.2 innings

Double-A Trenton Thunder (3-2 loss to Binghamton)

  • 1B Gosuke Katoh: 1-4
  • CF Trey Amburgey: 0-4, 1 R, 2 K
  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • LHP Ryan Bollinger: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 7/3 GB/FB — 61 of 87 pitches were strikes (70%)

High-A Tampa Tarpons (4-2 win over Dunedin)

  • CF Estevan Florial: 1-5, 2 K — rehab assignment is over and he’s back with Tampa
  • SS Diego Castillo: 1-5
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 0-5, 3 K
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 1-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB, 1 E (fielding) — exactly one hit in five straight games
  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 2-4, 1 BB — 18-for-50 (.360) in his last 14 games
  • RHP Luis Rijo: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 5/4 GB/FB — 63 of 84 pitches were strikes (75%) … nice spot start for the 19-year-old … at least I assume it’s a spot start, jumping him from Pulaski to Tampa at his age would be rather aggressive

The Low-A Charleston RiverDogs were rained out. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

Short Season Staten Island Yankees (2-1 loss to Vermont, walk-off style)

  • SS Jesus Bastidas & CF Brandon Lockridge: both 0-4 — Lockridge struck out
  • RF Junior Soto: 2-4, 1 CS — 10-for-31 (.323) in his last eight games
  • RHP Matt Sauer: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 HR, 1 WP, 2 HB, 5/6 GB/FB — 53 of 85 pitches were strikes (62%) … his worst “control” start of the season so far … 2.01 ERA and 23/10 K/BB in 31.1 innings for last year’s second rounder

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (7-6 win over Danville)

  • SS Oswald Peraza: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP
  • 2B Ezequiel Duran: 2-4, 2 R, 1 BB — 8-for-20 (.400) with two walks and one strikeout in his last five games
  • CF Everson Pereira: 4-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 SB, 1 E (fielding) — doubled in the game-tying run in the top of the ninth … 17-for-42 (.405) in his last eleven games
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 0-5, 3 K
  • RHP Justin Wilson: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 7/1 GB/FB — 26 of 49 pitches were strikes (53%)
  • RHP Daniel Bies: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1/2 GB/FB — 29 of 43 pitches were strikes (67%), plus he picked a runner off first … 19/6 K/BB in 11.2 innings for this year’s seventh rounder

Rookie GCL Yankees East Game Two (1-0 win over GCL Yankees West in seven innings) lumping the two teams into one update

  • CF Antonio Cabello: 0-3, 1 K — in a 6-for-30 (.200) skid
  • SS Roberto Chirinos: 0-3, 2 K
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 2-4, 1 K
  • DH Stanley Rosario: 0-2, 1 HBP
  • LF Isaiah Pasteur: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — I enjoy his .280/.259/.560 batting line through eight games
  • CF Ryder Green: 0-2, 2 K, 1 HBP — in a 2-for-20 with 13 strikeouts slump
  • C Alex Guerrero: 1-2, 1 K
  • LHP Chaz Hebert: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K — picked a runner off first
  • RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K, 1 HB, 5/3 GB/FB — a complete game in the GCL? those are extremely rare, even in seven-inning games … Josh Norris said Gomez sat 92-95 mph with his fastball and was “really impressive” … the Yankees signed the 18-year-old for $50,000 during the 2016-17 international signing period

Rookie GCL Yankees West Game Two (2-1 win over GCL Yankees West in seven innings) makeup of their June 30th rainout … lumping the two teams into one update again

  • CF Antonio Cabello: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 2B Roberto Chirinos: 1-3
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 2-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — here’s video of the home run … dude looks every bit his listed 6-foot-5 and 204 lbs. … 13-for-29 (.448) with four doubles, a triple, and a homer in his last eight games … the Yankees signed the 17-year-old for $450,000 last July
  • LF Stanley Rosario: 1-3, 2 K
  • C Hemmanuel Rosario: 0-3, 1 E (throwing)
  • SS Sincere Smith: 0-2, 1 K, 1 E (throwing) — this year’s 32nd rounder is 0-for-10 to begin his career
  • DH Ryder Green: 0-3, 1 SB — so now it’s a 2-for-23 (.087) with 13 strikeouts slump
  • LHP Connor Jones: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1 WP, 4/2 GB/FB
  • RHP Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 0/1 GB/FB
