Game 92: Ace vs Ace
Yankees 7, Indians 4: Bats come alive to pick up Severino

Two quick notes to pass along this week:

  • RHP Dillon Tate missed the Eastern League All-Star Game with a minor quad injury, Double-A Trenton manager Jay Bell told Matt Kardos. “It was just a slight strain,” said Bell. It’s possible Tate will avoid the disabled list completely.
  • The Yankees will not re-sign RHP David Hale a fourth time. Sunny says Hale is signing with a team in Korea. We’ll always have those innings you soak up in Toronto last week, David.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (2-1 loss to Rochester)

  • 1B Tyler Austin: 1-3, 1 BB
  • RF Billy McKinney: 1-4, 1 3B
  • DH Mike Ford: 0-4, 2 K — finished rehabbing the oblique with Staten Island and is back here
  • SS Abi Avelino: 1-3, 1 R, 1 K
  • RHP Chance Adams: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HB, 8/5 GB/FB — 69 of 106 pitches were strikes (65%) … a string of good starts before the trade deadline would be appreciated

Double-A Trenton Thunder (2-1 win over Richmond in ten innings, walk-off style)

  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-3
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB — 12-for-33 (.364) during his eight-game hitting streak
  • 1B Gosuke Katoh: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K
  • RHP Brian Keller: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 5/3 GB/FB — 60 of 98 pitches were strikes (61%) … only the second time in 14 games this year that he struck out more than six batters
  • RHP Brady Lail: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR, 1/2 GB/FB — 24 of 34 pitches were strikes (71%)

High-A Tampa Tarpons (5-1 win over Jupiter)

  • SS Diego Castillo: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B
  • DH Isiah Gilliam: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K — 29.2 K% and 3.8 BB% this year after 21.7 K% and 10.6 BB% last year
  • RHP Nick Nelson: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 5/2 GB/FB — 50 of 89 pitches were strikes (56%) … one run allowed in his last four starts and 22.1 innings

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (11-5 loss to Delmarva)

  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB
  • 3B Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI

  • RHP Jio Orozco: 4 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 6/3 GB/FB — 56 of 83 pitches were strikes (67%) … had allowed six earned runs total in his previous five starts and 27.1 innings
  • RHP Alex Vargas: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 5/6 GB/FB — 38 of 61 pitches were strikes (62%)

Short Season Staten Island Yankees (4-2 win over Mahoning Valley)

  • CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-3, 1 HBP — got picked off first … with a more age appropriate level after a weirdly long ten-game stint in the GCL … weirdly long for a recent draftee who was a three-year starter in college, I mean
  • SS Eduardo Torrealba: 0-3, 1 RBI
  • DH Miguel Flames: 1-3, 1 R, 1 K
  • 2B Jesus Bastidas: 0-3, 2 K
  • RHP Nolan Martinez: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 8/5 GB/FB — 58 of 91 pitches were strikes (64%) … 10/8 K/BB in 23 innings

  • 1B-3B Max Burt: 3-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 E (fielding) — 8-for-20 (.400) with two walks and two strikeouts during his little five-game hitting streak
  • CF Everson Pereira: 2-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K — 9-for-24 (.375) with four walks and five strikeouts in his last six games
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 0-3, 2 K — left the game after striking out in the fifth for an unknown reason
  • RHP Daniel Bies: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 3/0 GB/FB — 32 of 47 pitches were strikes (68%) … 15/5 K/BB in 8.2 inning for this year’s seventh rounder
  • RHP Justin Wilson: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 6/0 GB/FB — 27 of 50 pitches were strikes (54%)

Rookie GCL Yankees East (8-0 loss to GCL Pirates in eight innings) completed early due to rain

  • LF Isiah Pasteur: 1-3, 1 K
  • CF Ryder Green: 0-3, 2 K
  • 3B Jose Villa: 0-2, 1 K, 1 E (throwing) — left the game in the sixth inning for an unknown reason
